In short

Peru exported US$ 271.5 million of pomegranate between January 2025 and September 2026. In 2026 alone, up to September 22, it shipped US$ 153.5 million, 30% more than in all of 2025. Behind those totals there are two products with two prices. The whole fruit sold at an average of US$ 2.60 per kilo. The arils, the seeds already taken out of the fruit, sold at US$ 9.03 per kilo, 3.5 times more.

I went through Peru's customs export records shipment by shipment to see who sold what, to whom and at what price. The fruit weighed 95,365 tonnes and left in 7,375 shipments from 72 exporters to 39 countries.

The method is the same for every figure here. Each customs record names the exporter and, in most cases, the buyer, with the net kilos and the declared value. The price per kilo is the value divided by the kilos. Frozen fruit and frozen arils are left out of the two main prices, because they are a third product at a third price.

After going through the numbers, I think that for a pomegranate buyer the price of a kilo depended on three choices: whole fruit or arils, which exporter, and which month.

Two products, two prices

Whole fruit and arils, price per kilo

The whole fruit is most of the trade. It accounted for US$ 235.5 million, 87% of the value. Wonderful is the variety named in 74% of that value.

The arils are a smaller and very different business. They added up to US$ 31.0 million, 11% of the value, and almost all of it went to the United States. Three American buyers took 94% of it: POM Wonderful bought US$ 11.9 million at US$ 9.08 per kilo, Trinity Fruit US$ 11.7 million at US$ 8.36 and Youngstown Grape Distributors US$ 5.4 million at US$ 10.00.

Two Peruvian exporters shipped 92% of those arils. Corporacion Agrolatina sold US$ 22.3 million at US$ 8.91 per kilo, and Agricola Los Medanos US$ 6.3 million at US$ 10.29.

Frozen arils are a third product. They sold at US$ 3.64 per kilo, closer to the whole fruit than to the fresh arils.

So when someone quotes "the price of Peruvian pomegranate", the first question is which of the two. A buyer of whole fruit and a buyer of arils are looking at two markets, with different buyers, different exporters and different prices. The whole fruit is where most of the 72 exporters compete, and where their prices differ.

Who sold at the highest price

The 10 largest exporters of whole fruit shipped 73% of its value. Their average prices ran from US$ 2.04 to US$ 2.98 per kilo, so the one at the top got 46% more per kilo than the one at the bottom.

Price per kilo of the 10 largest exporters

Frutos Tropicales Peru Export got the highest average of the ten, US$ 2.98, selling to only 5 buyers. Pomica Peru followed at US$ 2.91, with 42 buyers.

Exportadora Fruticola del Sur, the largest exporter, sold US$ 38.5 million of whole fruit to 62 buyers at US$ 2.79 per kilo. Sobifruits sold at US$ 2.74, Agrocosta at US$ 2.60 and Complejo Agroindustrial Beta at US$ 2.56.

At the lower end, Siembra Alta and Agricola Pampa Baja averaged US$ 2.54, Agroinca Productos Peruanos de Exportacion US$ 2.40 and Cultivares US$ 2.04.

A low average does not mean a weak exporter. Siembra Alta, third by value, sold US$ 23.7 million to 43 buyers at US$ 2.54. Part of the gap comes from the size and quality of the fruit, which customs records do not show, and part from the destinations and the months each exporter worked.

One exporter, several prices

The average of an exporter hides the spread between its buyers. Exportadora Fruticola del Sur charged its six largest buyers from US$ 2.81 to US$ 3.23 per kilo.

One exporter, several prices

Ogl Foodtrade, in the Netherlands, paid it US$ 3.23. Mountain Farmers in the United States and Fsspb in Russia paid US$ 3.15. Mountain Farmers Russ, in Russia, paid US$ 2.81.

All six paid above the exporter's own average of US$ 2.79. The rest of its sales, to smaller buyers and to buyers whose names customs did not publish, went out at lower prices.

One buyer, several prices

The same happens from the other side. Ogl Foodtrade was the largest named buyer of whole Peruvian pomegranate, with US$ 13.0 million at an average of US$ 3.16 per kilo. It paid Pomica Peru 12% more per kilo than it paid Complejo Agroindustrial Beta.

One buyer, several prices

Pomica Peru got US$ 3.32 from Ogl Foodtrade, Exportadora Fruticola del Sur US$ 3.23 and Siembra Alta US$ 3.10. Frutos Tropicales got US$ 2.99, Agricola Pampa Baja US$ 2.97 and Beta US$ 2.96.

Siembra Alta is worth a second look. Its average across all buyers was US$ 2.54, but this buyer paid it US$ 3.10. The price an exporter gets depends on who is on the other side.

The calendar

Peru ships pomegranate in a short season. From February to May 2026 it shipped 89% of the year's value.

Price per kilo by month

The price of the whole fruit moved inside that season. In 2026 it started at US$ 3.17 per kilo in January, when little fruit was leaving, and fell to US$ 2.47 in April, 22% less, at the peak of the harvest. By July it was back at US$ 2.99.

2025 followed the same shape. The low came in May, at US$ 2.43, and the price recovered to US$ 2.91 in July.

For a buyer, the months at the edges of the season cost more per kilo. For an exporter, every week of fruit that can reach June or July sells above the April price.

Where the fruit went

The Netherlands took most of Peru's whole pomegranate: US$ 134.5 million, 57% of the value, at US$ 2.64 per kilo.

Price per kilo by destination

The United States paid US$ 2.83, Russia US$ 2.84 and the United Kingdom US$ 2.72. Brazil paid the most of the eight largest destinations, US$ 3.00. Saudi Arabia paid US$ 1.99 and the United Arab Emirates US$ 1.83.

Prices inside the same company

One of the ten largest exporters also sells to its own companies abroad. Complejo Agroindustrial Beta ships whole pomegranate to its Beta Best Produce subsidiaries in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Spain. Those subsidiaries took 25% of the value Beta sold to named buyers.

The fair comparison is on the same day and to the same country, so the month and the destination do not change. In 2026 there were 7 days when Beta shipped to its own subsidiary and to an outside buyer in the same country. On those days it declared its subsidiaries at US$ 1.91 per kilo and charged other buyers US$ 2.51, 24% more. The subsidiary got the lower price on 6 of the 7 days.

Price inside the same group

In 2025 the gap was smaller. On 12 comparable days, the subsidiaries were declared at US$ 2.78 and other buyers paid US$ 3.10, and the subsidiary got the lower price on 8 of them.

Part of that gap can come from the size and quality of each lot, which customs records do not show. It is the opposite of what the large cocoa buyers did in Ecuador, where transfers inside the same group were declared above the price paid to other suppliers.

What it means for a buyer

A buyer cannot change the season, and it decides early whether it wants whole fruit or arils. It can choose which exporters it buys from, and that choice moved the price per kilo as much as the month did.

In practice, that turns into three questions for any pomegranate buyer. Which exporters sold above the market, to whom, and in which months? What does my current supplier charge its other buyers? And how many exporters can still ship after April, when the price recovers?

Customs records answer the three with names and prices, with one limit: 28% of the value left without the buyer's name published.

The numbers show it from three sides. Within the same product, arils sold at US$ 9.03 per kilo and whole fruit at US$ 2.60. Within one season, the whole fruit went from US$ 3.17 in January to US$ 2.47 in April. And within one buyer, Ogl Foodtrade paid US$ 3.32 to one exporter and US$ 2.96 to another.

That is why I look at the list of exporters, with what each one charges and to whom, before I look at the average price of a country. The average tells you where the market is. The list tells you who to call first.
