For a laboratory that sells in Peru, or wants to, these figures show who brings medicines in from abroad and from which country. In 2026 almost 31,000 tonnes entered the country, 15% more than the 27,000 of the same stretch of 2025. The value grew less than the weight because the average price per kilo fell 4%, from US$ 20.11 to US$ 19.21. The number of buyers barely moved, with 397 companies importing in the 2025 stretch and 401 in the 2026 one.

Italy tripled its shipments in one year

Between January 2025 and September 2026, India is the top origin, with 12% of the value. Germany, China and Italy follow, with 8% each. In 2026 the order changed. Italy went from US$ 22 million in the 2025 stretch to US$ 69 million, up 215%, and already supplies 12% of the value of the year. India fell 4%, to US$ 67 million, and came second.

The Italian kilo is worth US$ 318, one of the highest prices on the list, against US$ 31 for the Indian kilo and US$ 2.46 for the Chinese one. That gap reflects the kind of product each country sends. China ships a lot of weight at a low price, while Italy ships products of high value per kilo.

Italy is also the main 2026 origin for four of the largest importers, Tecnofarma SA, Inretail Pharma SA, Pfizer SA and Merck Peruana SA. France also grew, 35%, to US$ 22 million. The United States fell the most among the top ten origins, 12%, to US$ 30 million.

Tecnofarma more than doubled its purchases

The ten largest importers account for 37% of the value since 2025, and the first one alone for 9%. That first one is Tecnofarma SA, with US$ 121 million since January 2025. In 2026 it stands at US$ 75 million, 120% more than in the same stretch of 2025.

Inretail Pharma SA grew even faster. It went from US$ 8 million to US$ 20 million, up 161%, and rose to fifth place for the year. Oqcorp SAC grew 57%, to US$ 21 million, with China as its main origin. Pfizer SA grew 48%, to US$ 17 million.

Other large buyers bought less. Astrazeneca Peru SA, second since January 2025, fell 19%, to US$ 27 million. Novartis Biosciences SA dropped 28%, and Laboratorios Americanos SA 25%. With that drop, Laboratorios Americanos SA slipped from eighth place in the cumulative ranking since 2025 to 12th in 2026.

Many companies come and go, but they move little money

There are 92 companies that imported medicines in 2025 and show no purchases in 2026. In 2025 they totalled US$ 10 million, and more than half belongs to a single one, Qs Consumo SAC, with almost US$ 7 million. On the other side, 64 companies imported for the first time in 2026, and together they add up to less than US$ 2 million. The largest is Pharma International Group Filial, with US$ 390,000 from Italy.

The real weight sits at the top. The 132 importers above US$ 1 million bring in 95% of the value. Small companies are many, but they change the total very little.

What to watch from here

Most likely, the growth of 2026 is explained by a few large buyers that increased their purchases from Italy, although nine months are not yet enough to know whether it is a lasting change of supplier or a one-off order from one or two companies.

Three things are worth following in the last quarter. Whether Tecnofarma SA and Inretail Pharma SA keep their pace. Whether Italy stays ahead of India when the year closes. And whether Astrazeneca Peru SA and Novartis Biosciences SA recover what they lost.

The 2026 figures run to 27 September and are compared with the same stretch of 2025. The country is the origin the importer declares at customs. Values are FOB, without freight or insurance.

For a laboratory that exports medicines to Peru, the starting point is the companies that already buy from its country and those that have just increased their purchases in 2026.
