Mexico shipped 33.5% more fresh avocado in 2026 and earned 13.3% less
- Mexico shipped 33.5% more tonnes through August and earned 13.3% less, at US$ 2.32 per kilo.
- Peru shipped 2.0% more tonnes and earned 9.2% more, at US$ 1.88 per kilo.
- From January to March 2026 the Mexican price stayed under the Peruvian one.
From January to August 2026, Peru, Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador exported 1.84 million tonnes of fresh avocado, 14.9% more than in the same months of 2025, and earned 6.7% less for it. The average price fell from US$ 2.64 to US$ 2.12 per kilo. Mexico explains all of that fall.
I went through the customs export records of the four countries, shipment by shipment, to see who shipped fresh avocado, to whom and at what price. Since January 2025 the records name 945 exporters selling to 1,320 buyers in 63 countries. Each record names the exporter, the destination, the net kilos and the declared value. The price per kilo is the value divided by the kilos. To compare two years I use January to August, the months all four countries have published.
If you import avocado, these numbers change how you compare suppliers this season.
Mexico lost its price lead over Peru
In January 2025 Mexico shipped fresh avocado at US$ 3.97 per kilo and Peru at US$ 2.15. In January 2026 Mexico shipped at US$ 2.03 and Peru at US$ 2.21. For the first three months of 2026 the Mexican price stayed under the Peruvian one, a position it did not hold in any month of the first half of 2025.
Over the eight months, Mexico went from US$ 3.62 to US$ 2.32 per kilo, 35.9% lower. It shipped 988,471 tonnes, 33.5% more, and its value fell 13.3% to US$ 2.28 billion.
Peru moved the other way. Its price rose 7.4%, from US$ 1.75 to US$ 1.88 per kilo. It shipped 751,500 tonnes, 2.0% more, and earned US$ 1.41 billion, 9.2% more.
Colombia shipped less and held its price. Its 101,529 tonnes were 19.5% fewer, at US$ 1.96 per kilo against US$ 1.95. Ecuador remains small, with US$ 4.99 million.
Who shipped the fruit
Four houses lead Mexico, and they ship largely to companies of their own groups. Mission sold US$ 256.74 million in 2026, Calavo US$ 184.26 million, Del Monte US$ 127.85 million and Grupo West Pak US$ 124.50 million. A price between two parts of one group says little about the market, so I give no company price for them.
Without those four, Mexico has 270 exporters and an average of US$ 2.26 per kilo, against US$ 3.65 in the same months of 2025. Comercializadora Global Frut sold US$ 59.13 million at US$ 2.26, and its largest named buyers were Henry Avocado and Lgs Specialty Sales. Aguacates Chahena y Mas sold US$ 55.74 million at US$ 2.37, Aguacates la Bonanza US$ 53.55 million at US$ 2.21, and Grupo Aguacatero los Cerritos US$ 42.68 million at US$ 2.26.
Peru has a wider set of open sellers. Mission Produce, the Peruvian company of the same group, sold US$ 136.56 million to 64 named buyers in 12 countries, at US$ 1.89 per kilo. Viru sold US$ 73.94 million at US$ 2.14, and its value grew 57.4% through August. Westfalia Fruit sold US$ 67.21 million at US$ 1.94 to 61 buyers in 17 countries. Sociedad Agricola Drokasa sold US$ 65.46 million at US$ 2.01, Camposol US$ 61.58 million at US$ 1.67, and Exportadora El Parque US$ 54.72 million at US$ 1.88 to 46 buyers.
Volumes moved fast between sellers. Corporacion Agrolatina shipped 130.1% more tonnes than in the same months of 2025 and reached US$ 42.31 million. Agricola Cerro Prieto shipped 34.4% fewer tonnes and still sold US$ 53.27 million, to 41 buyers.
What the same fruit costs by destination
The route matters as much as the origin. In 2026 Peru sold to the Netherlands at US$ 1.94 per kilo, to Spain at US$ 1.93 and to the United Kingdom at US$ 1.99. Korea paid US$ 2.14 for Peruvian avocado and Japan US$ 2.01. Chile, a neighbor with a short route, paid US$ 1.53.
Mexico sold to the United States at US$ 2.36, to Japan at US$ 2.32 and to Canada at US$ 2.11. Colombia sold to the Netherlands at US$ 2.00, close to the Peruvian price on the same route.
Variety moves the price too. In 2026 Hass avocado averaged US$ 2.00 per kilo across the four countries, Fuerte avocado US$ 1.99, Maluma avocado US$ 1.90, Zutano avocado US$ 1.73 and Ettinger avocado US$ 1.51.
Organic fresh avocado sold at US$ 2.38 per kilo against US$ 2.12 for the rest, 12.3% higher, across 1,279 shipments from 44 exporters. Aguacate Jr, in Mexico, led with US$ 24.64 million, followed by Fronterra Avocados with US$ 11.95 million. In Peru, Fixgrom sold US$ 3.40 million.
New names and names that stopped
The list of sellers changes every year. In 2026, 662 exporters shipped from these four countries. Of those, 176 had no shipments in 2025, and together they sold US$ 67.24 million. Another 283 exporters shipped in 2025 and have no shipments in 2026.
A supplier list from two years ago will miss many of the companies active today. An importer who still prices Mexico as the higher origin is working with last year's numbers. I would ask both origins for a quote on the same size and month, starting with the exporters that already ship to your country.
The Latin American Fresh Avocado Suppliers Radar lists the 945 exporters, with a profile for the 50 largest, and the Excel holds every shipment.
